LOCAL AREA

Loweswater

Cockermouth is famous for the being the birthplace of William and Dorothy Wordsworth, and you can visit the national trust property of Wordsworth House.  There is a variety of shops, restaurants and bars, the famous local brewery, Jennings, runs brewery tours.  The 2 rivers, the Cocker and Derwent flow down from the nearby valleys and converge in the town.

There are many local walks to explore this area. Nearby, the lakes of Bassenthwaite, Loweswater, Crummock and Buttermere are but short drive away, as is Whinlatter forestry Centre with marked forest trails, bike hire and Go Ape forest adventure.

The Solway Coast is 10 miles away, and the towns of Maryport, Silloth and Allonby are definitely worth exploring.
